As and When Male Support Workers – DSI service. Hull and East Riding

Barnardo’s DSI service has been providing support to disabled children, young people & their families and a range of providers across the region for a number of years. The service is registered with the Care Quality Commission.

They are looking to increase the number of Male Support Workers to provide support to disabled young people aged 0-25 years and their families across Hull and East Riding. Workers will be highly motivated and have a passion for engaging, supporting and empowering young people and their families. Sessions takes place 7 days a week, predominantly after school/college and on the weekends.

They are seeking to recruit male workers so that they are able to respond to the increasing numbers of referrals to support male children, young people and adolescents where a male worker is being requested. The Children’s and Families Act 2014 requires providers to offer service user’s choice and provide respectful and dignified support in line with their wishes and feeling. As young people transition to adulthood many of them require a male worker to not only assist with their daily care needs, but to also contribute to promoting a positive sense of self and good emotional well-being. Having positive strong male role models helps develop this in a way which is respectful and protective of their needs.

Barnardo’s currently have 12 children and young people requiring a male worker, some needing 2:1 support. They support children, young people and adolescents with a range of varying abilities and needs, some young people may have a learning disability meaning that their mental capacity is lower that their chronological age, whilst others are cognitively competent.
