An Untold Story
April 27 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
An All-female Hull-based collaborative introduce their new book, charting their journeys to the streets and back
A free event which makes reference to some adult themes. A limited number of free books available on a first come, first served basis.
Prostitution in Britain is controversial, and women who work on the street are the most obvious symbols in debates on the subject. But they’re also usually the least empowered to choose their profession, and work in far more risky conditions than women in other forms of sex work with a higher public profile.
The street becomes a last resort, where they will be paid many times less per transaction, face a significantly greater risk of violence, stigmatisation and in Hull – acquiring an enduring criminal record which could bar them from safer employment.
The thoughts and experiences of these women are rarely heard on the subject, and the beauty and complexity of their life histories remain obscured to public awareness.
You are invited to come and take part in the launch of this book which truthfully but tenderly tells the life stories, entirely in their own words – of twelve women who have experienced street prostitution in Hull.
