Great Get Together here in Great Grimsby
June 17 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of the murder of Jo Cox MP.
In her first speech to Parliament in 2015, Jo inspired the whole country when she said: “We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than that which divides us.”
Both Jo and PC Keith Palmer were killed while doing their jobs. Their deaths – and the deaths of those more recently in Manchester and London – were carried out by people who wanted to turn our communities against each other.
We can’t let that happen.
When communities are strong, and when we’re united, it’s harder for hate to flourish.
That’s why, this weekend, people up and down the country are getting together with their friends, neighbours and families for The Great Get Together – to have fun, to unite, and to prove that we have more in common than divides us.
There are over 13,000 events planned already, so it looks like it’s going to be huge. But, to really bring the UK together, we need as many communities as possible to take part.
That’s why I am asking you to join me at the Great Get Together here in Great Grimsby on Saturday 17 June 2017.
This is an open event where the public, families and friends and faith and community groups can all come together in an informal way as we work towards a society where there is a common vision and sense of belonging for all.
The event will take place in the Riverhead Square (opposite The Barge) from 12 noon to 2pm.
Jo loved parties. A big celebration that brings the country together would have been just the thing she would sign up for. Please join me to celebrate what we have in common by uniting communities across the country.
