St Andrew’s Place Open Day
September 6 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Taster sessions offering help with stress and worry will be among the activities on offer at a public open day held to launch a new health and wellbeing centre.
Humber NHS Foundation Trust will stage the free event on 6 September at its refurbished St Andrew’s inpatient rehabilitation unit, in St George’s Road, Hull.
The Trust, which has been operating its night-time Crisis Pad service from the building for four months, wants to showcase it plans to use the building during the day to provide psychological therapy, courses offered by Humber Recovery College, and advice and drop-in sessions offered by partner organisations.
Visitors will be able to take part in taster sessions offering help with issues including panic, depression and sleep hygiene at the event, scheduled to run from 10am until 3pm.
Therapists will be on hand to talk about services for older adults and veterans, assistance for people with chronic fatigue and pain management, and help for those who require mental health care at home.
The Trust’s Recovery College, which offers almost 50 courses to improve mental wellbeing, including t’ai chi, mindfulness and developing self-esteem, will also hold demonstrations and enrol new students.
East Riding Health Trainers will also be available to give advice on healthier lifestyles, including weight loss and smoking cessation, and displays will highlight the Trust’s excellent performance in meeting waiting time targets for psychological therapy.
Tea and coffee will be available and Hull Pie will offer food from 11am until 2pm.
Paul Johnson, Clinical Care Director for Adult Mental Health, said: “We hope people will take this opportunity to come and see how the Trust is breathing new life into St Andrew’s.
“We want to maximise our use of the refurbished building by making its services available to as many people in the communities we serve as we can.
“We think people will be interested in what we have to offer and we look forward to showing them around.”
The Trust re-opened St Andrew’s in April to provide its 8pm to 2am Crisis Pad service for people in acute emotional distress.
