ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service)

ACAS stands for Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. ACAS is a non-departmental body, governed by an independent Council. They aim to improve organisations and working life through better employment relations.

They help with employment relations by supplying up-to-date information, independent advice and high quality training, and working with employers and employees to solve problems and improve performance.

Acas offers training in all major aspects of employment relations – anything affecting the relationship between employers and employees. Their training covers the basics – such as recruitment, contracts of employment, people management, discipline and grievance and absence management – and more advanced training, such as conflict management, mediation, monitoring and impact assessment and addressing work/life balance.

CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development)

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is Europe’s largest HR and development professional body. Supporting and developing those responsible for the management and development of people within organisations.

HM Revenue and Customs

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) was formed on the 18 April 2005, following the merger of Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise Departments. Work is still continuing on their office restructuring programme.

They are here to ensure the correct tax is paid at the right time, whether this relates to payment of taxes received by the department or entitlement to benefits paid.
