Volunteer Business Manager, Chairman &Trustees – Jennyruth Workshops

Jennyruth Workshops is a productive social enterprise (and registered charity) for adults with learning disabilities living in Ripon and the surrounding area.  Jennyruth Workshops aims to teach the workers a variety of transferrable work skills to equip them for possible future employment and provides opportunities which enable them to be more independent, confident, and to make a positive contribution to their community. This is achieved through the production and marketing of a wide variety of craft products.  Jennyruth Workshop’s fundamental purpose is to improve the quality of life of people with learning disabilities.

The workshop is run by a small number of full time staff assisted by many volunteers and overseen by a part time chief executive reporting to the board of trustees. The charity is financially sound and well regarded and supported by the local community.

Business Manager

Following a period of strong development under the present chief executive who retires this summer the trustees envisage a period of consolidation and are looking to appoint a part time business manager to support the full time staff.  The time commitment is flexible but typically entails regular attendance at the workshop on at least one or two days a week and periodic contact by telephone or e-mail at other times.  The position is likely to suit someone with managerial experience in a small or medium sized business who is in a position to commit to a hands-on role and able to make a material time commitment.  Ideally they are seeking to appoint someone on a volunteer basis but a modest remuneration would also be considered.

Chairman

The chairman is also due to retire this summer and they are seeking an experienced person with some knowledge of the charitable/ voluntary sector to join the board of trustees and head up the charity.  The trustees currently meet formally every quarter but it is expected that the chairman would want to maintain regular contact with the business manager and the senior staff at other times and also play a role in representing the charity locally.

There are also likely to be one or two trustee vacancies later in the year and the trustees would be very interested to hear from anyone attracted to such a role.
