Grassroots Endowment Fund incorporating the Richard Weare Endowment

The Grassroots Richard Weare Endowment Fund is the follow on from the Government’s Grassroots Grants and Endowment Match Challenge scheme managed by the Office for Civil Society formerly the Office of the Third Sector.

The Grassroots Grants scheme saw £80 million pounds given away nationally to small voluntary and community groups and the endowment challenge matched donations to the foundation during the period of the Grassroots scheme 2008 to 2011 enabling the foundation to build an endowment of over £1.3 million.

A large contribution to the success of the endowment match challenge in our area was the transfer of the Richard Weare Charitable Trust.

Both this and all of our other donations has meant that we now have a permanent endowment which will benefit our communities for years to come as grants are made from the investment yield.

The Grassroots Endowment Fund incorporating the Richard Weare Endowment is aimed at helping small, mainly volunteer led, charities and voluntary & community groups with funding for projects that enable groups to meet their needs.

Grants are available of between £500 and £3000 for groups who are based in York, North Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.

There is a very straightforward online application process, however if for any reason you cannot apply in this way then an application pack can be requested from the office.
