Short Breaks for Young Carers Project 2011-12
Who is eligible?
A young carer is defined as a child or young person under the age of 18 (not 18) whose life is being affected by assuming a level of responsibility for another person. The person being cared for may be a parent, sibling, family member or friend who needs care, support, or supervision because of disability, illness, mental illness or problems with drugs or alcohol.
The Project
Young carers can apply for up to £200.00 for individuals and up to £500.00 for families.
Special circumstances will be taken into account. Young carers can apply for the grant and put it towards something that will benefit themselves or their family. Whether it is a short break away, football lessons, swimming lessons, garden equipment, someone to come and help with the housework, a television etc.
Applicants must be endorsed by a professional such as a key worker
